Transurethral resection of the prostate Treatment in India at Livonta global.

There are different types of medical problems which a man faces in the recent times due to the adulterated lifestyle and increased work stress. TURP stands for Transurethral resection of the prostate gland. It is a medical procedure which is performed in case of the individuals where the size of the prostate gland is enlarged and causes difficulty to the respective men in the natural process of urination.

Basics of the TURP procedure:

The surgeon performs the TURP procedure when the prostate gland has to be reduced in the male patient. The surgeon utilizes a Device known as resectoscope to treat the patient successfully. You need to note that this device is around 0.5 inches wide and 12 inches long. This device is inserted into the prostate through the urethra.

There is an electric wire which is present at the end of the device. This helps to cut and separate the tissue. This separation is done in the form of pieces. After this, the parts are removed from the body via the bladder of the male patient. The procedure is then completed.

What happens during TURP procedure?

As the surgeon starts with the TURP procedure, he inserts the resectoscope into the urethra. The light and camera present in the starting point of the device guide the surgeon into the urethra of the patient.

A loop of wire is present here. It is heated with electric current. It helps in cutting the prostate gland.

Then, a catheter is used. It ensures that the pieces of the prostate gland are flushed out, and the area is cleaned well.

TURP procedure is completed in an hour time, and then the patient is kept in the hospital for next few days.

Risks associated with Transurethral resection of the prostate gland:

Like any other medical procedure, TURP procedure also has certain risks and complications associated with it. Here are some of the commonly occurring risks after the TURP procedure.

Urinary incontinence: At times, TURP procedure leads to the sudden urge of urination which becomes uncontrollable. Medications, surgery as well as lifestyle change help the individual to overcome this complication over the time.

Erectile dysfunction: This is quite common in the patients who undergo TURP procedure. There is difficulty in starting and maintenance of the erection. This can be temporary or permanent depending on the case and condition of the patient.

Retrograde ejaculation: This condition can be seen in some of the patients who undergo TURP procedure.

Urethral strictures: It happens in most of the patients. There is strain while urinating and pain can also occur at times. The urine comes out abnormally in the form of a spray which can lead to discomfort to some of the men.
